Turtles and wildflowers (and a new song!)
New song out!
First things first, my new song Live Oak (Slow Your Roll) is out in the world! You can click this link to find it on your music platform of choice. If you want to help my music reach more people, saving the song and sharing it or adding it to your playlists goes a long way!
I started recording this one at the same time as the Ocean and the Wind EP, but the style felt different so I decided to save it for a single. It has more of a groovy and piano-driven feel with a jazzy solo at the end, with some funky drums from Dimitris Gkoulimaris and bass by Taylor Turner.
I’m so appreciative of how supportive everyone has been so far - thanks for helping me celebrate the release (:
I’m particularly proud of the turtle image, which came from the photo below of a very very tiny turtle I rescued when I was walking on the lakefront trail. I added a little video to the song on Spotify of him swimming to freedom after I put him back in the lake. I thought he was the perfect mascot for the ‘slow your roll’ theme of the song.
Hello and goodbye spring
Since my first newsletter, Spring came and went in Austin, and wow was it nice while it lasted! Spring is a really intense and vibrant period of growth here. The wildflowers come out in full force. The prickly pear cactus grows new soft bright green paddles that are alien-esque. The sun hid behind the moon one afternoon while everyone howled.
Gigs gigs gigs
I did tons of fun performing in the first half of the year. I led a few different configurations of jazz duos and trios at Fareground, and also played lots of shows on keys with Nossas Novas (a Brazilian Bossa Nova and Tropicália band). The picture below is from a particularly cool show in the town of Blanco, where Nossas Novas did an acoustic trio gig. Nothing like playing on a real baby grand piano for a change!
Thanks for reading! Friendly reminder you can respond to these via email and I promise to email you back.
